Remember how Been Trill, MCM & HBA got ran into the ground? Well you can probably take a wild guess as to what brand is next to get ran into the ground, Bape, not much of a surprise. You can catch some of your favorite rappers in it these days, from Meek Mill and Future to Shy Glizzy, a lot of the celebs are wearing it which is in turn rubbing off on the youth. Some of the youth however are getting there hands on phony apparel.
People that sell Bape at flee markets and shit like that are cashing out on this because these kids don’t care if its fake or not, they just know that its Bape and its what’s in. Anybody in 2015 that wants to get into street wear is going straight to Bape, and that sucks. Tumblr is another reason the brand got a lot of its popularity, as kids can just log on and see folks draped in it and so on. I don’t think the brand is for everyone, nor am I against it but its just another case of folks fitting into the trend. In the mid 2000’s we saw a lot of artist such as Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Pharrell and even Soulja Boy rocking the brand that originated in Japan. I feel like back then a lot of people fronted on the brand, mainly knocking the colors and designs. Those same folks are saving their checks from work just to buy 1 Tee shirt from Bape.
I think more than anything the whole situation just makes people who are actually into Bape and have been for a while very upset. It means more revenue for the company of people are actually buying the legit product, and Bape isn’t a brand that is gonna go away any time soon, but its going to lose a lot of its credibility with kids walking around in all of these fake designs and what not. If it’s not for you just keep it that way, stop trying to keep up with what you see.
